You may not realize it, but your blood is full of powerful healing factors that can give you younger-looking skin and fuller, thicker hair. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can rejuvenate and heal parts of the body from joints and muscles to hair follicles. At Renew MD, we harness this valuable resource and use it to improve the condition of your skin and hair.

What is PRP?
Your blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and many signaling molecules in a fluid called plasma. When extracted and spun in a centrifuge, the blood separates. Heavier blood cells sink to the bottom and the plasma, still full of platelets and signaling molecules, rises to the surface. We remove this platelet-rich plasma (PRP) during your visit and prepare it for application or injection. The platelets trigger a cascade of healing processes, while the signaling factors stimulate cell turnover and further healing responses.
How Does PRP Work?
PRP works because a concentration of platelets tells the body to mobilize a healing response. This has been used to treat medical conditions including joint, muscle, and tendon damage, osteoarthritis, post-surgical wound healing, and regenerative medicine.
Platelets in PRP act as first responders to damaged tissues, helping to stop bleeding. They also recruit many other healing factors and immune system cells to the scene to initiate the repair process as quickly as possible. This makes PRP a powerful tool for improving the health of facial skin and restoring fuller hair growth.
To further enhance the beneficial effects of PRP, Renew MD utilizes the Venus Viva™ radiofrequency laser to prep the skin prior to treatment. The innovative fractional skin resurfacing technology sends pulses of radiofrequency energy deep into the tissue to repair skin damage. By performing this treatment prior to applying PRP, the platelet-rich plasma penetrates the skin more effectively, allowing Renew MD to deliver superior treatment results.
PRP for Lines and Wrinkles
At Renew MD, we use PRP as part of our Vampire Facial. This treatment combines the collagen-enhancing abilities of microneedling with the healing abilities of PRP to provide you with improved results and decreased downtime.
After applying a layer of PRP to your skin, your skincare specialist will move the microneedling device over your skin. This creates tiny channels in the skin that stimulate a healing response from the cells around them. The microneedling also injects the PRP into each channel. It speeds up the healing process, diminishing the redness and swelling that microneedling can cause. It also improves your results by helping your skin produce even more collagen, so it looks younger and firmer.
PRP for Hair Loss
We offer PRP for hair loss as a hormone-free, medication-free way to restore fuller, thicker hair. Genetics and other factors can cause hair loss, most commonly in a pattern known as male pattern baldness. However, women also develop thinning hair and respond just as well to PRP as men.
After separation, PRP is injected into areas of the scalp where hair is thinning or receding. This often occurs when follicles go into a dormant state and stop growing new hairs. PRP restores the activity of these dormant follicles by increasing their blood supply and triggering them to become more active. Most people will need four treatments over a four-month period, followed by yearly treatments to maintain hair growth.
