Hair loss is common in men but can affect nearly anyone due to genetics, diseases, or other concerns. While surgery is an effective method for restoring hair vitality, many patients do not want to undergo surgery or extensive recovery. PRP hair treatments at RenewMD provide a non-surgical alternative to induce hair regrowth gradually.

What is PRP Hair Treatment?

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is part of the blood that is responsible for healing wounds in the body. Cosmetologists use PRP to rejuvenate the hair from receding hairlines and androgenetic alopecia.

Our team draws small amounts of your blood to spin in the centrifuge for treatment. The centrifuge separates the PRP from the white and red blood cells. Once the platelets are prepared, your injector will inject the blood into the target areas of the scalp. The PRP stimulates the stem cells in inactive hair follicles to prompt new hair growth.

What to Expect from Recovery After PRP Treatment

After your treatment, your scalp may feel tight, and you’ll experience minor swelling. We recommend avoiding alcohol and limiting sun exposure for two days and advise against wearing hats, beanies, etc.. Most patients can return to their daily lives immediately after their PRP injections.

What Results to Expect After PRP Hair Treatment

Most patients need four treatments over four months to see their ideal results. Studies have shown an increase in hair density by 30-40%. Results take time. You’ll see gradual hair regrowth over the four-month treatment.

The hair regrowth develops slowly over several treatments and can last up to a year. After eight months to a year, most patients need maintenance treatments to continue encouraging hair regrowth.

Am I a Good Candidate for PRP Hair Treatment?

If you want to restore your hair with a natural, convenient treatment, you may be a good candidate for PRP hair treatments. PRP may be an ideal option for you if you have dormant hair follicles, are concerned with hair loss, are facing a decrease in hair volume, and want to improve your hair thickness without surgery or downtime.

We do not recommend PRP hair treatments for those suffering from a blood disease or struggling with hair loss from stress, medications, or medical treatments. If you are on blood thinners or have had chemo in the past five years, you may need to wait before beginning treatment. To know if PRP hair treatment is the right option to restore your hair, please schedule an appointment with our team at RenewMD for a consultation.
